Re: Don Thorn's Feb. 23 letter, "Checked out":
Here we go again. By repeating the very same GOP talking points lambasting President Obama, Mr. Thorn, in his letter suggesting our president is taking too many long vacations, doesn't know the facts.
Never mind that President Reagan took monthlong vacations and the last Republican President, George W. Bush, outdid all the presidents in U.S. history regarding vacations. Here's the truth:
At the same point in their respective presidencies Gust before their six-year mark) Obama had taken 38 fewer vacation trips than Bush and spent 252 fewer days on vacation than Bush.
Obama spent 84 days at Camp David and Bush, 341 days at the same point of their tenure.
As to playing golf, Bush on the golf course, talking about his newly started horrific and unnecessary Iraq war, finished his statements by grabbing his golf club and saying: "Now watch this swing!"
The Republicans' repeated talking points, most often using blind hate and falsehoods, are not only destructive to twice-elected President Obama but are destructive to the office of the presidency and greatly damaging to our entire nation.
Most people sure hope the Republican majority in the House and Senate will stop acting like spoiled children and learn how to govern as our Founding Fathers wanted.
