It's almost midnight in Kraków and I can't sleep. No secret there. it's just something I saw today that has so engulfed me in a nauseating, trance-like sickness that I'm now hollow inside my being. I'm speaking of my visit today to Auschwitz and Birkenau. When you view a horror that continues for acres and acres as far as the eye can see, reality becomes a shear form of extreme madness!
How can one country be so full of vitriolic hate and fear that would drive them to commit these indescribable acts of murder/mayhem upon men, women, and children? According to the guide on our tour today, Poland lost 18% of its population in the Holocaust. Today will be our last day in Kraków. I really hope this day walking about this historical and beautiful, vibrant city will be my catharsis.
